    History

The Indochina Merit Cross was awarded by the Governor-General of Indochina to native citizens for exceptional services rendered to agriculture, commerce, the arts, and public life.

Promotions to the next class could be made after 5 years in the previous grade. There was a maximum limit of 500 Bronze Crosses, 100 Silver Crosses, and 15 Gold Crosses.

The obverse and reverse are identical and bear an inscriptio ...  n in characters that translates to “It is Worthy to Develop Knowledge,” and a French inscription that translates to “French Indochina.”

There may be versions of the Cross that vary in composition and manufacturer.
