History
The Medal for Aeronautics was established on February 14, 1945. It is awarded for professional services in the Ministries of Defense and Transportation, for developments and research in aviation, airports, or aircraft manufacture, and for exceptional acts of heroism in aviation. It may be awarded to military personnel and civilians.
A maximum of 275 Medals are awarded annually. From 1945-1961 the annual contingent was limited to 250.
The obverse inscription translates to “Honour and Fatherland,” and the reverse inscription translates to “Medal of Aeronautics.”
