History
The Medal for the Resistant Patriot Interned in the Occupied Departments of the Rhine and Moselle was created on December 27, 1954. It was originally called the Medal of the Proscribed Patriot Confined to House Arrest in Enemy Territory. The actual name was established on August 29, 1959.
The Medal was awarded to holders of the Proscribed Patriot Card. These cardholders were residents of Haut-Rhin, Bas-Rhin, or Moselle, who were arrested and interned in enemy territory because of their devotion to France during World War II.
There are two versions of the Medal. They vary in inscription according to the name change of the Medal in 1959. The first version has a reverse inscription that translates to “Proscribed Patriots 1939-1945,” and the second version has a reverse inscription that translates to “Patriot Resistant to Occupation in the Departments of Rhin and Moselle 1939-1945.”
It is uncertain when the Medal ceased to be awarded.
Proscribed Patriot cards may still be open for application.
