History

The Medal of Honour for the Public Forces of India, also called the Medal of Dupleix, was created on August 12, 1943. It was created by Louis Bonvin, the Governor of French Establishments in India. It was not awarded after 1955.

It was awarded to the Public Forces of India for long and faithful service or for acts of courage and devotion. The II Class Medal was awarded for 15 years of service, or 12 years of service combined with two official citations. The I Class Medal was awarded to recipients of the Second Class Medal after an additional 12 years of service. It could also be awarded in absence of minimum service requirements for exceptional service, or for an exceptional act of courage and devotion.

The obverse inscription translates to “French Establishments in India, Dupleix,” and the reverse inscription translates to “Public Forces, Medal of Honour.”
