History


The Medal of Honour for Welfare was created on February 27, 1923, but it was later replaced by the Order of Social Merit in 1936.

It was awarded to those who contributed to the administration and distribution of welfare, including local mayors, municipal councilors, as well as administrators, directors and personnel of savings banks, welfare funds, and retirement funds.

The Bronze Medal was awarded for 5 years of service, the Silver Medal was awarded for 5 additional years of service after receiving the Bronze Medal, and the Gold Medal was awarded for another 5 years of service after receiving the Silver Medal.

The obverse inscription translates to “French Republic,” and the reverse inscription translates to “Ministry of Labour, Medal of Honour for Welfare.”
