History

The SSBM Cross for the Franco-Prussian War was awarded by the Société de Secours aux Blessés Militaires (SSBM) for service in the Franco-Prussian War. This was the first major assignment for the Society since its creation in 1864.

The obverse inscription translates to "French Society of Aid for Wounded in the Armies of Land and Sea."

There may be additional versions which vary in composition.
