Physical Description
A circular medal constructed of silver. The obverse bears a central monogram of Leopold IV, topped by a royal crown, within a laurel wreath. The reverse bears the inscription "FÜR FÜNFZIGJÄHRIGE DIENSTTREUE” (for fifty years of faithful service). Measuring 32.29 mm in diameter, and weighing 13.8 grams. On a loop for suspension with a green ribbon with white stripes.
History
The Medal for 50 Years of Long and Faithful Service was founded by Duke Leopold Friedrich IV on May 12, 1864. The medal was conferred upon ducal officials and civil servants to recognize 50 years of exemplary service.
The medal was first awarded on May 25, 1864 and last awarded on November 13, 1917. A total of 314 medals were awarded.
