Physical Description
A circular medal constructed of tombac. The obverse bears the royal monogram of Grand Duke Friedrich encompassed by a laurel wreath. The reverse bears the inscription "FÜR TREUE DIENSTE IN DER KASERNE UND LANDWEHR" (for loyal services in the barracks and homeland militia). On a loop for suspension on a red and yellow striped ribbon.
History
The Infantry Reserve Long Service Medal (1913-1918) was founded by Grand Duke Friedrich I. It was conferred upon reserve Non-Commissioned Officers and enlisted men to recognize exceptional service within a campaign, or for serving on active duty for a minimum of 3 months.
The medal was the second form of the decoration, and recipients could trade in the bar for a medal.
