History
The Waterloo Medal was founded by Duke Friedrich August I in commemoration of the Battle of Waterloo, and it was awarded to the officers, non-commissioned officers, and enlisted men who participated in the battle.
A smaller version of the medal was instituted in 1817 to be worn by off-duty recipients.
The stamp for the medal was designed by Johann Lindenschmit.
