History
The Commemorative War Medal, 1813-1815 was founded by King Friedrich Wilhelm III. It was awarded to individuals who participated in the Liberation Wars against Napoleon and remained true to their duties for the duration of the conflict.
The Medal for Combatants was manufactured in both Paris and Berlin. The medals that were manufactured in Paris feature rounded cross arms on the reverse, and the medals that were manufactured in Berlin feature squared off cross arms on the reverse.
If a recipient was expelled from their position as a soldier, the commemorative medal had to be withdrawn and sent back to the general order commission. Following the death of a recipient, the medals were stored in parishs. If a medal was lost during an exercise of service, it was replaced.
