History
The Schleswig-Holstein Cross was founded by King Albert to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Dybbøl on April 13, 1849.
The cross was conferred upon all the military personnel and doctors that had demonstrated merit while serving in Saxony's military units throughout the 1849 campaign.
The Saxon contingent consisted of one brigade and two regiments of infantry, one rifle battalion, one cavalry regiment, one six and one twelve-pounder battery and a pioneer detachment.
The obverse of the cross features the cypher AR for Albertus Rex, and the reverse shows the year 1849. The cross is embossed in one piece.
