History
The SA (Sturmabteilung, storm detachment) was established in 1921 as a paramilitary protection squad of the NSDAP. The members of the SA were tasked with protecting party leaders at political rallies and meetings from the paramilitary forces of the opposing political factions. The SA was first utilised on November 4, 1921 at a meeting held in Munich’s "Hofbräuhaus" beer hall. The organisation was banned after the failed putsch in 1923 and was reactivated in February 1925.
The institution date of the SA Presentation Dagger is unknown, although some sources speculate that it was likely in 1938 or 1939. The dagger was conferred upon a very small number of high ranking German leaders.
The dagger has a 210 mm Damascus steel blade that features the SA motto “Alles für Deutschland” (everything for Germany) in gold lettering on the obverse. The reverse of the blade features a presentation inscription in gold lettering. The inscription differed for every recipient. The blade attaches to an ornate white ivory hilt that is wrapped with twisted gilt wire. The golden pommel is engraved with an SA pattern eagle and the crossguard features two eagle heads with an SA symbol between them. The scabbard is wrapped in brown leather and features gold-plated metal fittings.
The sole manufacturer was the firm of Carl Eickhorn, Solingen.
