History
The Baltic Regiment was established on January 1, 1919 to support newly founded Estonia in its fight for independence from Russia. The regiment was made up of volunteering Germans and Russians living in the Baltic region, since they were not allowed to join the Estonian army. The regiment was disbanded on August 20, 1920.
The Baltic Regiment Honour Cross was instituted by the Baltic Regiment Association on the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the first volunteer units that would later make up the regiment, on November 16, 1918. The cross was awarded to all former members who had served on the front line for at least three months.
The cross is made of a black enamelled cross with silvered edges. Superimposed over it is a shield in white enamel on which is a silvered downwards pointing sword.
