History
The Freikorps von Diebitsch Merit Cross was awarded for bravery and merit. There is a I Class and a II Class, however, it is unknown if the I Class is a progression of the II Class or if they were awarded according to rank, i.e. I Class to Officers and II Class to Enlisted Men.
The I Class cross was worn around the neck, while the II Class cross was worn on the chest on a ribbon or the ribbon bar.
The I Class cross is gilded and features black enamel on both sides. On top of the 12 o'clock arm is a gilt crown. The round gilt centre features the family crest of the von Diebitsch's on the obverse, three intertwined wings. The reverse features the date "1919". The cross is completed by two crossed gilt swords.
The II Class cross is a smaller version of the I Class cross with one main difference: instead of the crown, the cross features an agraffe between the tips of the 12 o'clock arm.
The ribbon for both classes is golden-yellow with three black stripes.
