History

The Freikorps Gabcke Commemorative Medal was instituted in 1920. Award criteria are unknown. It was manufactured by L. Chr. Lauer, Nuremberg. The medal is made of bronzed zinc.

The obverse is the same as a popular sports medal of the time that was designed by Professor Kruse. It features a naked athlete running to the viewer's left and holding a laurel branch. To the left of him is the word "SIEG" (victory).
The reverse features the inscription "WEST-FĂ„LISCHES FREIKORPS GABCKE 1919-20", surrounded by an oak leaf wreath.
