History

The Annaberg Cross was established in 1931 for the 10th anniversary storming of the Annaberg hill on May 21, 1921. It was instituted by Major Horadam, who in 1921 commanded the Freikorps Oberland.

The Freikorps or Bund Oberland was established during the tumultuous post-war period in 1919 in Bavaria and fought against communist uprisings. When Polish insurgents invaded Upper Silesia in May of 1921, the Freikorps Oberland was sent to support the local Freikorps and militias.

It is assumed that the cross was awarded as a I, II, and III Class, as a neck badge, a pinback badge, and a ribbon badge, respectively. However, this cannot be confirmed with certainty.

The pinback cross is silvered and the obverse enamelled in black. A Silesian Eagle is attached to the centre and two crossed swords in between the cross arms, both silvered. The cross arms feature the inscription "ANNA-BERG 21.5. 1921", with "ANNA-" on the 9 o'clock arm, "BERG" on the 3 o'clock arm, "21.5." on the 12 o'clock arm, and "1921" on the 6 o'clock arm.
