History
The Selbstschutz (literally "self protection") Battalion Generalfeldmarschall von Hindenburg was formed in late May of 1921 by Major von Waldow in Upper Silesia to fight Polish insurgents. It was disbanded in early July of the same year.
In the fall of 1921, von Waldow instituted the Hindenburg Badge as a commemorative award for meritorious former members. No further information about the institution or the statutes of the award are known.
The badge is in silver and slightly vertically oval. It consists of an oak leaf wreath that is held together by a ribbon at the bottom and is open at the top. In the opening rests a seven-pointed crown. In the centre is a black enamelled letter "H".
