History
The Selbstschutz (literally "self protection) District Kreuzburg in Upper Silesia was established in May of 1921 when the area had to be defended against Polish insurgents. The unit's leader was Oberleutnant Lenz. With the restoration of order and British troops securing the area, the Selbstschutz was disbanded not even a month after it was formed.
A commemorative award in two classes was instituted after the end of the fighting. It was manufactured by the company of Max Reich in Breslau. No further information about the institution and the statutes is known.
Both I and II Class awards are identical in design, the difference is solely in the manner of attachment to the uniform. The I Class award features a pinback, while the II Class features a ribbon ring at the top.
Both classes were awarded with swords (for bravery) or without swords (for merit).
The award is in the form of a gilded cross with white enamel. The round centre portion features a gilt border and the coat of arms of the town of Kreuzburg on white, a city wall with three towers and an open gate in red enamel.
The ribbon for the II Class cross is yellow with two light blue stripes.
