History
The Freiwillige Hundertschaft Krose (a volunteer unit made up of 100 men) was established in Bremen by Oberleutnant Wilhelm Krose in response to Polish insurgents invading Upper Silesia in early May of 1921. The unit traveled there to support the local militias. After two months of fighting and securing the region, it was disbanded on July 5, 1921.
The award was designed and instituted by Krose and manufactured by Deschler, Lüdenscheid. Further information regarding the institution and statutes of the award are not known.
The award is in the form of a gilded cross with white enamel and a red enamelled border in between two gilt borders. The round centre portion features a gilded border and red and white enamelled diagonal stripes, five red ones and four white ones. Between the cross arms are two crossed swords.
The reverse features the inscription "FREIWILLIGE HUNDERTSCHAFT KROSE 1921" in the centre, and "FÜR VERDIENST" on the left side and "UM OBERSCHLES" on the right side.
