History

The Medal was awarded for merit and long service within the Hungarian Red Cross.

The earlier awards feature enamel on the obverse and Red Cross emblem, while the later awards feature paint/lacquer on the obverse.

The Gold Medal was primarily awarded in recognition of more than 10 years of service, but it was also conferred for especially meritorious services.
