History

The Medal was originally instituted in 1947, and it was re-instituted by the Hungarian People’s Republic in 1968.

The medals conferred during the Hungarian People's Republic are almost identical to the medals awarded during the Republic of Hungary, except they are not inscribed with the institution date "1947" on the reverse.

This Medal continued to be awarded to Hungarian citizens and foreigners in recognition of successful participation in sporting activities at the national and international levels.
