History


This Order was founded to recognize the friendship and diplomacy between the Soviet Union and the Republic of Hungary.

It commemorated April 4, 1945, the day on which the last of the occupying German forces were ejected from Hungary with help from the Soviet Union.

The Order was often awarded to Hungarians who supported the Hungarian People’s Republic and helped spread socialist ideology.

This decoration was conferred upon approximately 2466 recipients.
