History


This Medal was founded by Miklos Horthy, and it was awarded to Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, and enlisted soldiers for exceptional bravery in war. It is also known as the Hungarian Medal of Courage.

The Medal was originally awarded in a single silver grade. In 1939, the Silver Medal was divided into the Large Silver Medal and the regular Silver Medal, and the grades of Gold Medal and Bronze Medal were added.

The Gold Medal for Officers was not added as a grade until September 12, 1942.

It was awarded to Officers for rendering service during World War II.

When Gold Medal for Officers features a gold coloured crown with crossed swords and a laurel wreath on its ribbon.
