History
The Medal was founded by the National Assembly of the Hungarian Republic, and it was awarded on the 35th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution against the government of the Hungarian People's Republic.
The Hungarian name of the medal is "1956-os Emlékérem".
It was conferred upon Hungarian citizens who had participated in the revolution, and in doing so had supported and protected Hungarian freedom.
The Medal was also awarded posthumously to participants of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. The posthumous version of the medal is worn on a black ribbon featuring green, white, and red stripes.
This Medal was discontinued in 2012.
The reverse should be signed by the engraver "D.L. VÉSNÖK KFT".
