The Truce Commemoration Medal was awarded in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the truce signed on July 11, 1921, that effectively ended the War of Irish Independence. It was awarded to recipients of the Service Medal (1917-1921) who were living on July 11, 1971.
The Gold Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "The Struggle for Independence.” A total of 22445 were awarded.
