History
The War Cross (1951) was established by Grand Duchess Charlotte by Grand Ducal Decree on May 9, 1951 to recognise service during the Korean War and other future conflicts. It is awarded to Luxembourgian military personnel and members of paramilitary organisations in recognition of acts of courage and bravery performed in wartime. It may also be awarded posthumously and to foreigners.
The bronze palm clasp is awarded for a citation at the battalion level, the silver palm clasp for a citation at the Army level, and the gilt palm clasp for a citation from the Minister of the Armed Forces. A small star clasp is awarded in recognition of wounds incurred in combat.
