The Medal of Merit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was established by Ministerial Decree in 2010. It is awarded in recognition of fostering international relations and meritorious service to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Gold Medal is worn by men on a neck ribbon and by women on a bow.

The Gold Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Medal of Merit," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Kingdom of the Netherlands."
