History

The Navy Medal is awarded to members of the Royal Netherlands Navy and the Royal Netherlands Marines in recognition at least 72 months of operational service, with at least 36 of those months spent at sea. It was originally awarded for at least 6 months of service in STANVFORLANT (Standing NATO Maritime Group 1), STANAVFORMED (Standing NATO Maritime Group 2), STANAVFORCHAN (Standing Naval Force Channel), the Netherlands Antilles, or Netherlands New Guinea.
