History


The Antwerp Medal was established by Royal Decree in 1833. It was awarded to those who defended the city of Antwerp against the French during the Siege of Antwerp in 1832.

The Bronze Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Citadel of Antwerp.” There is an additional version with a surmounting wreath that was awarded for honourable mention. Approximately 5000 Medals were awarded in total.

There may be additional versions of the Bronze Medal that vary in size.
