The Frisian Volunteer Medal was established by Royal Decree in 1818 and was awarded to the Frisian volunteers who participated in the liberation of Friesland in 1815.

The Silver Medal features a reverse inscription that translates to "For King and Fatherland." A total of 65 were awarded.
