History

The Gelderland Medal was awarded to members of the Gelderland militia for the defence of Dutch independence. It was issued non-wearable, but on August 29, 1833, it became permitted for wear on military uniforms.

The Silver Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "1815 Campaign," and a reverse inscription that translates to "From the Grateful Inhabitants of Gelderland, To the Voluntary Defenders of Dutch Freedom." A total of 120 were awarded.
