History
The Atjeh Medal was established by Royal Decree in 1874. It was awarded to Dutch military personnel in recognition of participation in the First Aceh Expedition in 1873, and the Second Aceh Expedition in 1874, against the Sultan of Aceh and Achenese forces.
Recipients of the Atjeh Medal were also eligible to receive the Expedition Cross with an "ATJEH 1873-1874" clasp.
The Gold Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "William III King of the Netherlands, Grand Duke of Luxembourg." There may be additional versions that vary in size.
