History

Established as one of the first medals after the war for Norwegian military valour, this medal is conferred upon civil and military personnel who under hazardous conditions have rendered services in prevention of damage to property, and equipment, and prevention of death of another individual.

This Medal may be awarded posthumously.

This Medal may not be conferred more than once to the same recipient, and may not be conferred simultaneously with another Norwegian decoration, in recognition of the same deed.

There may have been two versions of this medal, one with laurel branch, and without laurel branch, after amendments made in 2009. If there was a version of this medal that did not consist of a laurel wreath, it was abolished in 2001, along with another amendment in statutes. More research is needed.
