Other individuals who are not members a police force are also eligible to receive the Medal, if they have rendered meritorious actions and there are no other applicable awards for them.

The Medal may be conferred posthumously, for anyone killed during a police service mission.

A recipient can only be awarded this Medal once, with no other Norwegian award, in recognition of the same deed.

The obverse design consists of an enamelled police agency emblem, and the reverse inscription translate to "honour and effort" from Latin.
