History

The Royal Collegiate Corporation of Noble Sons of the Nobility of Madrid (Real Cuerpo de Caballeros Hijosdalgo de la Nobleza de Madrid) was originally established in Madrid by Alfonso VI in 1083. It was founded as a commemoration of his victory over the Moors, and the conquest of Madrid.

The Corporation was originally in charged of training the Nobility of Madrid in chivalry and gallantry, and it was awarded for meritorious performances of their duties.

The Corporation became under the protection of the Spanish crown since 1786, and it was named Royal in 1909. The design of uniforms and badges were approved in 1801.

The current grades of the Corporation were approved in the beginning of the twentieth century. These are Grand Cross, Knight, and Dame.

Currently, the Corporation is awarded to the heritage of the nobility of Madrid, in recognition of the efforts to keep the principles of the nobility in Spain.

This Corporation is one of the most strict Corporations of Nobility in the country.
