History

Established by the Armed Forces, this Medal is conferred upon Swedish military personnel who have rendered 30 days of service internationally during any 12 month period of time.

When the medal is conferred, the recipient will receive an associated clasp which reads the location of where the recipient rendered their service.

If the recipient has served additional time, a numerical clasp is added on the ribbon with the corresponding number of missions in which the recipient has participated in.

Under the circumstances that the recipient has distinguished themselves with great valour, a silver coloured laurel wreath clasp may be added on the ribbon of the Medal.

On February 8, 2008, an "inbetween" medal of the Swedish Armed Forces Reward Medal for International Service, and the Swedish Medal for Commendable Acts was instituted; this Medal is called the Armed Forces Medal of Merit.
