History
The Isle of St. Vincent Medal was established during the Second Carib War in 1795. During the war, Brigade Major Seton raised a corps of 500 men on St. Vincent from the island’s slave population. These men had been freed especially for service under the British flag to fight against the French-supported Carib uprising.
The Medal was awarded to the black Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers of the Corps in recognition of their service.
The medals were issued unnamed and without a suspension, although it is common to find them pieced, or with a ring added.
