History

The King Edward VII Coronation Police Medal 1902 was instituted in commemoration of the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra on August 9, 1902. The Medal was presented in Silver and Bronze to members of the various police, ambulance, and other organizations who provided service during the Coronation ceremonies. Silver Medals were presented to officers while Bronze Medals were presented to other ranks and police civilian staff. Approximately 675 Silver and 19885 Bronze Medals were awarded.

The Medal features a reverse inscription of the date "26 JUNE 1902" despite the Coronation being held on August 9, 1902, as a result of the ceremony being postponed due to a sudden illness suffered by King Edward VII after the Medals had already been struck.
