History
The Diamond Jubilee Medal 2012 was instituted in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The Medal was presented to members of the armed forces, emergency services, operation prison services and police community support officers who completed 5 years of service by February 6, 2012. The Medal was also presented to living holders of the Victoria Cross and the George Cross, as well as to members of the royal household. It is estimated that 450000 Medals were issued.
There are 3 versions of the Medal which are issued by the United Kingdom, Canada, and the Carribean realms. The Medals differ by obverse and reverse design and inscription and by composition. The Medal issued to recipients of the Carribean realms features a distinct ribbon.
