History
The Queen Victoria Jubilee Medal 1897 was instituted in commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of Queen Victoria's accession to the throne during the Diamond Jubilee on June 20, 1897. The Medal was issued in Gold, Silver, and Bronze to participants at the celebration. Gold Medals were presented to members of the royal family, Silver Medals were presented to members of the royal household, government ministers senior officials and distinguished foreign visitors, and Bronze Medals were presented to Non-Commissioned Officers and other men who attended the ceremony. Approximately 73 Gold, 3040 Silver, and 890 Bronze Medals were presented.
A clasp inscribed "1897" was awarded to recipients of the Jubilee Medal (1887) who also attended the Diamond Jubilee in 1897.
The Medal is similar in design to the Jubilee Medal (1887) but differs by the reverse inscription of the date and anniversary of the award.
