The Visit to the Prince of Wales to India Medal 1875 was instituted in commemoration of the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) visit to India and awarded between 1875 and 1876.
The Medal was struck in Gold, Silver and White Medal. A Silver Badge and a Silver Medalet was also awarded to commemorate the state visit of the Prince of Wales. 48 Gold and 165 Silver Medals were issues as well as 13 Silver Badges. The Silver Medalet was awarded to crew members of the HMS Renown, the HMS Terrible, and the Royal Yacht Osborne. The Silver Medalet also features a distinct obverse with the initials "A" and "E" inscribed around the Prince of Wales' emblem and a reverse inscription "HRH ALBERT EDWARD PRINCE OF WALES INDIA 1875-76."
