The Queen's Ambulance Service Medal for Distinguished Service is awarded to members of the National Health Service (NHS) Ambulance Service in recognition of at least 10 years of meritorious service. High performance, completion of a project to significantly impact the lives of staff or patients, leadership in implementing new technology, leadership in training new staff, special services to the Royal Family or heads of state, successful leadership during difficult circumstances, or prolonged service accompanied by additional distinguished acts may be recognized by the award. Recipients are entitled to use the post-nominal letters QAM.
The annual contingent is limited to 10 recipients, composed of 4 recipients from England, 2 from Wales, 2 from Scotland, 1 from Northern Ireland, and 1 from the Channel Islands.
