History

The Royal Military Asylum Good Conduct Medal was instituted around 1850 and awarded to students enrolled in the Royal Military Asylum in recognition of good conduct. The Royal Military Asylum was established for the education of sons of soldiers killed in action or while on service. In 1892, the Royal Military Asylum was renamed the Duke of York's Royal Military School.

There are 2 versions of the Medal. The first depicts the inscription "ROYAL MILITARY ASYLUM" on the reverse, while the second features the change in the inscription to "DUKE OF YORK'S ROYAL MILITARY SCHOOL."

There may be additional versions of the Medal which vary in composition. Both silver and bronze Medals are known to exist, however, it is uncertain if the silver and bronze Medals are awarded for different ranks.
