History

The Arctic Medal 1876 was instituted on November 28, 1876, and awarded to Officers and men of the HM shits Alert and Discovery in recognition of service in the Arctic Expedition between July 17, 1875, and November 2, 1876. The Silver Medal was also awarded to the crew of the private yacht Pandora who served from June 25 to October 19, 1875, and June 3 to November 2, 1876. It is estimated that only 155 Medals were awarded.
