History

The Dekoratie Voor Trouwe Dienst (Decoration for Devoted Service) was instituted by King George V on December 21, 1920, and was retrospectively awarded by the Union of South Africa to Officers and men of the 2 former Boer republics, Transvaal and Orange Free State, in recognition of distinguished and meritorious service during the Second Boer War between 1899 and 1902. The award of the Silver Medal was discontinued in 1946. Approximately 655 awards were made.

Recipients of the Medal are entitled to the Post-Nominal letters "DTD."

The Medal features the arms of the Transvaal and the arms of the Orange Free State on either side. The Medal does not feature a designated obverse or reverse side but is rather worn by the recipient with the appropriate arms showing.
