History

The Nigeria Independence Medal was authorized by Queen Elizabeth II in 1964 and awarded in commemoration of Nigeria's Independence on October 1, 1960. The Medal was awarded to personnel of the Royal Military Forces, Royal Nigerian Navy, and the Nigeria Police, as well as to members of the United Kingdom Land Forces who supported the Royal Nigerian Military Force during Nigeria's Independence.
