History

The Queen's Medal for Champion Shots of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines was instituted by Queen Elizabeth II on June 12, 1953. The Silver Medal is awarded annually to the champion shot of the marksmanship competition of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.

The Medal is issued with a clasp inscribed with the date of the award. Additional clasps are awarded to denote subsequent awards. A silver rosette may be worn on the ribbon when the ribbon is worn alone.

The Medal features a Latin inscription on the reverse that translates to "Victory Loves Care."
