The Shanghai Municipal Police Long Service Medal was issued in 1925 to reward members of the Shanghai Municipal Police Force (an international force composed largely of Sikh, Chinese, Russian, and British ex-soldiers and police) for 12 years of meritorious service. The award of the Silver Medal was abolished in 1942.

A dated clasp was awarded to denote each additional 5 years of service.

The Medal features the recipient's name engraved on the rim. Medal's awarded to Indian recipients feature a named engraving in both English and Hindu.
