History

Initially trousers were grey with no greenish component to them. Officially the colour was known as steingrau (stone-grey). Starting in 1940 trousers were made of the same field-grey material as most garments.

The Mountain Trousers were used by mountain troops.

The first pattern is in the style of breeches with leather trimming on the seat, inside the legs, and on the knees. This version was replaced in 1935 o ...  r 1936.

The second pattern has tapered legs (“Keilhose”) with ribbons at the bottom. There are two front pockets and one back pocket, all with a buttoned flap, as well as a buttoned small watch pocket. The seat, crotch, and inside of the legs are still reinforced, but with cloth instead of leather. These trousers were worn with ankle puttees.
