History

In general, the uniforms of the male Hitler Youth members consisted of a top, a neckerchief and woggle – but a tie for officers –, bottoms, a belt, knee socks, and shoes or boots.

Leather ankle boots were worn by different members of the Hitler Youth at different times. They were one of the choices of footwear for leaders, stated in a regulation from November 6, 1936. They were black, with four black eyelets and four black hooks.

A regulation from October 15, 1937 stated that black or brown ankle boots were to be the winter footwear for general Hitler Youth members, to be worn between October 15 and April 14. They were worn with grey wool socks turned down over the boots.

A regulation from September 30, 1938 stated they were a choice for all members of the Hitler Youth with the dress uniform (Gesellschaftsanzug) and the walking-out dress (Ausgehanzug).

Black lace-up ankle boots were also worn by all members of the Naval Hitler Youth. A regulation from 1934 stated they were to be worn as part of the undress uniform (Kleiner Dienstanzug) all year round for non-leader ranks. Officers (Gefolgschaftsführer and upwards) wore them as part of the service uniform (Dienstanzug). They were also worn year round with the work uniform by all members.
